“Father's Little Dividend” (1951) stars Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor in a hilarious story about impending parenthood. Taylor’s character is expecting a baby, and Tracy’s character, facing grandfatherhood, has mixed feelings but ultimately supports his daughter, wondering what life will be like after the “little dividend” arrives. Directed by Vincente Minnelli, it was the winner of the Director’s Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement. The film won two Photoplay awards and was nominated for the Gold Medal for Favorite Picture of the Year.
